STAGE 1 | SIGGIEWI - 10miles / 16.097km
The first stage of the ‘Challenge’ covers a 10 mile distance which starts and finishes in the centre of the quaint village of Siggiewi, a fourteenth century village in the South Western Region of Malta. Typically made up fo narrow streets and lots of character, particularly from the locals mingling in the square, the route on the first day will take athletes through village cores, coastal roads and rural areas.
STAGE 2 | MARSASCALA - 5km
Marsascala is an ancient fishing village in the southeast corner of Malta. Over the years Marsascala has grown into a popular town around the sheltered bay of Marsascala Creek. Along the coastline one can find low shelving rocks, colourful fishing boats and saltpans. The town is home to several Roman era remains including villas, baths, catacombs and cartruts.
STAGE 3 | ST. PAUL’S BAY - Half Marathon
The longest part of the ‘Challenge’, a half marathon, starts in St. Paul’s Bay and finishes in Qawra. Starting from the traditional seaside town of St. Paul’s Bay - named after St. Paul who was shipwrecked on an island located within the bay.
St. Paul’s Bay offers open sea views as the route eventually leads athletes into a mix of coastal and rural views. The course is dotted with some challenging hills, particularly the one that leads up to Wardija.
Nevertheless, the literally breathtaking view from there is worth the effort.
The Race finishes in Qawra, the finish line situated just 1.6km away from the starting line.
